Makita came out with a new corded masonry saw model 4100KB . The new masonry is not a wet cut saw meaning dry cutting only. Dry cutting masonry such as tile can be extremely messy as they create tons of dust but what’s neat about the new dry cut masonry saw is that it has built in dust extraction. You can hook up your vacuum with it’s built in vac port or use the supplied dust bag to trap dust.
Since this is a dry cutting tile saw, they use a large over sized upper blade guard that basically acts as a dust shroud to contain dust within the saw and so that it facilitates dust extraction. The upper blade guard/dust shroud is clear which makes the tool look a bit more modern and interesting. The saw itself uses a 5 inch blade and has a pretty good for it’s size 1-9/16″ cutting capacity at 90 degrees.
What’s also important to note is that you have the option to make this into a masonry track saw when you use it with the optional track accessory that comes in either 55″ or 118″ lengths. To use the saw with the optional tracks you do need to purchase a separate rail guide adapter so this saw can take advantage of the rail system.
Pricing for the Makita 4100KB 5″ Dry Masonry Saw is about $189 (the lowest I’ve seen) and the guide rail adapter is $39 and the tracks start at $85.
