Makita Updates Their X2 Chainsaw with New XCU04Z Model Now With A 16″ Bar and Chain

It wasn’t even that long ago that Makita featured a new cordless 18V X2 (36V) brushless chainsaw model XCU03Z with a 14 inch bar and chain. Now I found out that they already have available for sale, a newer XCU04Z model with a larger 16 inch bar and chain!

Based on the pictures alone, both models look identical except for the XCU04Z model having the slightly larger 16″ bar but cosmetically, they appear to be the same unit otherwise. I can’t confirm since I haven’t tried the new model, but I would assume the new model probably has a bit more performance to handle the larger blade and thus handle larger cuts. Remember that I can’t confirm that but it makes sense they did so because anytime a manufacturer increases capacity to their tools, they must increase the performance to keep up with the larger capacity, it’s just a law of physics otherwise you’d end up with a larger but underpowered tool.

I’m glad Makita was able to make a 16″ cordless X2 chainsaw because if you look at the competition, Dewalt has a 16″ chainsaw under their 40V Max outdoor power tool platform which made the Makita X2 14″ model look smaller by comparison so it’s good to see Makita is keeping up with their competition.

It doesn’t seem like Makita announced this new chainsaw through any major channels but it is available now with a list price of $299 as a baretool and around $400 as a kit.
