Makita XSH04ZB 18V Sub Compact 6-1/2″ Brushless Circular Saw

A new Makita XSH04ZB 18V Sub Compact 6-1/2″ Brushless Circular Saw has been spotted thanks to Cody Robertson. According to him, these new black model sub compact cordless models have popped up at the HD brick and mortar stores (not online) before they’ve been officially announced.

You’ll notice that this new model XSH04ZB is black instead of the traditional Makita teal color, that’s because these are part of the new Sub Compact line of 18V tools that offer 12V size and weight but operate on their 18V LXT Makita battery packs.

Interestingly though, it doesn’t appear to be the size of a 12V tool though and appears to be around the same size as a standard 18V cordless circular with a 6-1/2″ blade. Makita has made these cordless saws before, plenty of them using the 6-1/2″ blade size so I wonder what is so “sub compact” about this new model? I’d be more convinced of it being a tiny 18V tool about the size of a 12V tool if they went with a smaller blade and body – something of 5-3/8″ blade or smaller.

It is nice that like their other sub compact black tools that this new circular saw is also a brushless model, expect more runtime than traditional brushed motor saws and I wonder if they will also give it extra performance too? At the time of writing, there was no info from Makita themselves on their website so we’ll have to wait and see.
