Milwaukee recently updated their brushless M12 Fuel impact driver to a new second gen model 2553-22.

The Fuel model gets upgraded in just about every possible way from the original. You now get 1,300 in-lbs torque which is class leading for 12V impact drivers and Milwaukee claims that the new model is said to be 20% faster than other models on the market. More power while they made the impact crazy tiny at now 5.1 inches in length and an anorexic 1.76 lbs weight!

The previous model had 2 speed modes and now the new model has 4 modes. The 4 mode drive control is in the same spot and is electronically controlled via a simple push button and has 3 speed settings plus a fourth mode designed for driving self tapping screws. This basically gives you the same functionality as their larger M18 Fuel impact models.

All the other features from the original model make their way over such as the 1/4″ hex chuck that takes one hand to insert bits, belt clip, slimmed down ergonomic handle grip, and overall familiar cosmetic design although now squished because of the much more compact shape.

Even though the new model is better in every way over the first, the price remains the same as the original model at $169 in kit form. This makes me believe it will replace the original model. Expect this to hit stores in January 2018.

That looks great! However, I don’t think I’ll but it for awhile, because my gen 1 won’t die! I definitely don’t baby my tools and its still going great, and I’m sure the gen2 will live up to its older brother.
