Milwaukee M12 Fuel Jigsaw 2545-20 – Features

Milwaukee M12 Fuel Jigsaw 2545-20

Most of you that follow Tool Craze will know that I am a big fan of not only cordless power tools but 12 volt tools as well. I’ve built up a nice collection of 12 volt tools in my day and I remember the old original Milwaukee M12 jigsaw. Back then it was a solid little 12 volt jigsaw that was capable and reliable. Though it wasn’t without its faults as there were a several and one important one that made me dislike using it – no dust blower.

The original lacked many bells and whistles such as no brushless motor, no orbital settings, and no variable speed dial (although it did have a variable speed trigger). It did have solid performance for a 12 volt tool but my biggest gripe was the lack of dust blower which winded me every time I used it – literally – since I had to blow the dust away myself.

That’s where the new one shines. Sure the new one has a fancy new brushless motor with the FUEL name badge. It now has orbital settings. It now has a variable speed dial, but the biggest feature for me personally is that it now has a dust blower!!! That one feature alone would fix the original and now all the rest of the features added in together elevate this from a good tool to a great tool (at least on paper).

They even added a switch on the right side to toggle on/off the dust blower mechanism. You’d want to keep it on for all your cuts when not using a vacuum attachment. In the above image we also see an integrated LED light for help in low light situations. It can also be toggled on/off as well.

Thanks to that spiffy new brushless motor, Milwaukee claims that their Fuel jigsaw has the fastest 12V blade speed under load. They even include a graph to show that it can maintain cutting speed when pressure is applied and doesn’t fall off until just under 4.5 in-lbs of torque which is much later than their light blue competitor.

The variable speed dial provides 5 adjustment settings between 800-3,000 SPM. This jigsaw has a 7/8″ stroke length. These are all nice upgrades from the original which had a lower settings at a 3/4″ stroke length at a max 2,800 SPM.

The base can bevel however you’ll need to use a hex key to change bevel angles – bummer. But the hex key is included and has onboard storage for it. There’s also on board storage for extra blades as well in the included shoe guard.

Above we see the side profile of the new jigsaw. They ditched a trigger in place for a slide power switch. We can also see the orbital settings dial. They say it has 5 orbital settings however the writing shows zero and up to four which really means 4 orbital settings and off. We also see the slide blade release lever in front.
