Two new Gen 2 Milwaukee M18 Fuel Braking Die Grinders have been announced. A Milwaukee M18 Fuel Braking Die Grinder model featuring a slide switch and a model featuring a variable speed model featuring a paddle switch and ONE-KEY functionality. Both are said to launch January 2023.

What is a Die Grinder?

Die grinders are rotary action tools. They’re like a rotary tool (Dremel) but much bigger and stronger. They are useful for deburring, grinding, cutting, rust removal, polishing, engraving, etc. Mostly for metalworking, but can also be used on plastics, and even wood.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Braking Die Grinders – Common Features

These new Gen 2 models are said to offer the next advancement in power, performance, and control. They are said to offer performance similar to 11amp corded models. However without a cord, hose, or compressor to get in the way.

Also as their names suggest, they are braking die grinders. They feature the “RAPIDSTOP brake” which is their marketing name for an electric brake. This helps stop the motor in less than 2 seconds they claim.

Both are equipped with spindle locks and LED work lights. And they can accept up to 2″ accessories.



Milwaukee M18 Fuel Braking Die Grinders – Model Differences

The 2939-20 model features a slide switch while the 2984-20 model features a paddle switch, variable speeds, and ONE-KEY functionality. Variable speeds range from 8,000-20,000 RPM. ONE-KEY functionality provides the ability to track with community tracking and alerts, inventory management, and with smart equipped tech to secure your investment according to Milwaukee.

Pricing also varies. The slide switch model is priced at $249 as a baretool. The variable speed paddle switch model is priced at $299 baretool.

The Slide switch model can remove up to 12″ of weld bead per charge. The paddle switch model can deburr up to 35 pipes per charge. Both runtime figures based on using an XC 5.0 battery.
