Finally getting the Fuel treatment, they upgrade to a brushless motor which will yield more power and better runtime compared to the brushed model. Milwaukee claims we can expect up 3 times faster cutting and up to 50% more cuts versus other one handed recip saws. When equipped with a 5ah battery pack, the tool can deliver up to 180 cuts in 2×4’s and over 220 cuts in ¾” EMT. Milwaukee also states that this Fuel Hackzall has about 4x less vibration compared to full size recip saws.

Milwaukee among other brands already have a ton of standard reciprocating saw designs but the original Hackzall introduced an easy one handed design that brought a redesign to the innards which resulted in a smaller leaner recip saw perfect for one handed use.

As far as cosmetics go, the new M18 model looks very similar to the M12 Fuel Hackzall styling except bigger and takes an M18 battery. One big difference I see compared to previous Hackzalls is that the new M18 Fuel model gets a pivoting shoe, FINALLY!!

I’ve tried both M12 brushed and brushless Hackzall models and the difference in performance and runtime was significant so I expect the same difference between the brushed 18V Hackzall and the new M18 Fuel Hackzall.

One thing to keep in mind is that this is still a compact reciprocating saw and has a 7/8″ stroke length. Users that want a portable lightweight recip saw will consider this as a good option while users that need full power will have to look at other larger full size recip saws on the market.
