New Dewalt Cordless Planer DCP580XR Sneak Peak

dewalt DCP580XR

Many pro brands have cordless planers even some diy brands such as Ryobi have 18V planers and Dewalt is joining the group with the Dewalt cordless planer DCP580XR. Just announced in Europe, it will make its way soon overseas which probably means a North American release should be soon although that is purely speculation on my part. Not much is known at this point other than it will run on their 20V Max battery platform also known as 18V XR platform in the UK. It will also be a brushless model as well which will give Dewalt a leg up on its competition as the competition has brushed 18V planers.

A few things I noticed from the video in the form of features are that it has a one sided dust chute and is located on the right side. This forces users to grasp the tool in the right handed position, otherwise you’re left with dust on your shirt. It does show a dust bag accessory but I can’t confirm if it will come standard with the tool or if it’s an add on accessory. It appears to use 2 blades and I assume this because it has built in blade storage on the tool itself along with built in storage for the hex key to change blades. It also has a kickstand on the rear to protect the blade when you set it down and users must pull it out into place manually.

Also according to the uploader of the video – Credit D&M Tools, they claim that it will be available in April 2016 which I would assume this is for the European release. Keep your fingers crossed if you’d like to see this make its way to North America.
