If you go back 5 or 6 years, a 4.0ah battery would have been roughly double the size of this one. That’s because 18V/20V batteries of this capacity typically have 10 battery cells inside. So why is the Hercules 20V 4.0 Compact Battery roughly half the size? That’s because they are using high capacity cells and only need half as many to get the same capacity. Not just that but it is sporting newer higher performing 21700 cells. That should give it a boost in performance as well. That means they may provide a bit more power and capacity. All depending on the quality of the cells used. HF says this battery can get up to 40% more power, 65% more runtime. And 95% more cuts per charge when compared to their 2.5ah compact battery at 15amp discharge, cutting 2×6 pine with a circular saw.

Additional Features:

It features a 4-bar battery gauge on the front to check remaining battery. It is constructed with the use of impact resistant overmolding which helps with drops and bumps. And HF says it features internal electronics that help protect the battery during heavy use.
