Jet has introduced a new cyclonic separator known as model JDC-CS 717600 and it retails for $149.99 at the time of writing. What’s great about cyclonic separators is that they work in conjunction with your dust collector and act as a pre filter. They separate sawdust and wood chip debris into a separate container as cleaner air makes it’s way to the original waste bin. This keeps the original filter cleaner longer. What’s interesting about Jet’s new cyclonic separator is that the plastic housing is clear so you can see it in action as it does its thing, pretty neat. The separator helps maintain filter efficiency by increasing air flow while reducing clogs and the continuous need to empty waste bins and bags.
A dust collection system is essential for a clean and healthy shop environment. But when chips and other debris from planers and other shop tools contribute to clogging the dust collection’s high efficiency filter, it compromises the system’s efficiency. The JET Cyclonic Separator is available in two configurations. The Cyclonic Separator (JDC-CS, 717600) weighs 3.5 lbs. and has a 4” port and includes two hose clamps and a template for drilling six holes. Its capacity is determined by the choice of waste receptacles. It can be placed on top of most containers. Typically, the most common retrieval is using a 5-gallon bucket with a lid. The separator removes the chips and directs them downward into the bucket for easy emptying. The separator’s overall dimensions are 15.75L x 8.7W x 11.1”H.
The JET Cyclonic Separator and Bin (JDC-CSB, 717650) also has a 4” port and includes a locking steel bin with a 30 gallon collection capacity. Combined weight of the separator and collection bin is 10.8 lbs. The separator deflects the chips downward into the bin. Four casters at the base of the bin provide mobility, so it’s easily moved to other tools for hookup in the shop. The bin also has a clear view window to monitor its fill rate. Its overall dimensions are 20.9L x 16.6W x 30.5”H.
