New Ryobi 18V 3 Speed Impact Driver P237 with 1,800 in-lbs torque

ryobi p237 1A recent trend with Ryobi has been to add more power and features to their existing cordless 18V power tools. Following that trend is a newly released Ryobi 18V impact driver model P237. While this model looks almost like an identical twin to the existing P236 impact driver, it does pack a few extra features. Most importantly is the additional 2 speeds making it a 3 speed impact driver. Speeds can be toggled electronically via a slide switch located on the back of the impact. Also worth mentioning is that this has more torque according to Ryobi with 1,800 in-lbs torque, which is up 200 from the previous model. This is keeping up with pro brand impact drivers such as Dewalt, Milwaukee, and even Ridgid’s offerings that offer high torque stats on paper. Also new to the new model is the addition of a removable belt clip. As simple and plain as this may seem today, to someone like myself, this most basic of feature is very important when I am working on any project and consider it a fail when cordless drills and impact drivers of the past have not included them. Yes – the previous model did not include one.

Other than those few major differences, everything else seems the same, same max 3,200 RPM, and the same physical body with the exception of the 3 speed switch and belt clip. This means that the excellent tri-beam triple led lights make it to the new model and so does the magtray (magnetic tray) at the bottom. One thing that is interesting is that this new P237 model is already available at the Home Depot and with the same price tag of $79 baretool as the previous model. The previous model is also available as well but is currently lower in price at $59 baretool.

I am curious to know if the light stays on when you release the trigger. I feel like I am using a strobe light when in dark areas and only needing quick trigger pulls.

  • Javier says:

I am not sure since I have not used this new impact driver

I’ve been using this for a couple of weeks now. The light does stay in for a few seconds after the trigger has been released.
