Porter Cable PCC780LA Cordless 20V 7″ Sliding Table Top Wet Tile Saw

When I speak to contractors and construction workers I still hear them say that battery powered tools are weak and don’t last long. That may have been true of many years ago but that just isn’t the case anymore as tool technology is getting better and more efficient and battery capacities are getting larger and larger. Because of this tools that were previously only corded tools now have battery powered cordless options. One of those tools is from Porter Cable who now has a cordless battery powered PCC780LA 20V MAX 7″ Sliding Table Top Wet Tile Saw.

The biggest news I think is that this new tool as cordless model comes from Porter Cable. Stanly Black and Decker who owns the Porter Cable brand also owns the Dewalt brand so I would assume that a tool such as this one makes sense as a Dewalt tool first and then trickle down to their mid range Porter Cable brand but that’s not the case here and went straight to Porter Cable while Dewalt doesn’t have anything similar at the moment.

As a table top tile saw, the Porter Cable model offers a nice sliding table and being a wet tile saw offers a reservoir that holds water. I don’t see any mention of a pump so this is a very simple design in which the spray action is from the blade spinning as it’s submerged in the water, so nothing fancy in this sense. I have a cheap wet tile saw that was bought from Home Depot, a generic brand, that has a similar no pump system. It works but nothing fancy and because there’s no pump, the water spray is weak as the water level is low. However this Porter Cable model offers a sliding top which my cheapo model doesn’t so that’s nice to have.

My only concern over this cordless model is runtime. Being limited to 20V batteries I feel you will need several of them to do the job. The reason being because I’ve been using Dewalt’s 12″ Flexvolt sliding miter saw to cut tiles and even with two large batteries, the batteries are depleted quickly when cutting tile.

This Porter Cable 20V wet tile saw will be out soon and will retail for $229 and will come as a complete kit that includes: (1) PCC780 20V MAX* 7 in. Wet Tile Saw, (1) PCC685L 20V MAX* 4.0Ah Battery, (1) PCC699L Charger, (1) 7 in. Porcelain Tile Blade, (1) Miter Square, (1) Blade Wrench.

A big thanks for Cody Robertson for spotting this new tool and also a quick mention to Aaron for also spotting this!
