Ridgid 18V Brushless 7-1/4″ Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw R48607B

A little over a week ago I was contacted by Ridgid regarding a “new” cordless miter saw they are releasing soon. This is the Ridgid 18V Brushless 7-1/4″ Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw R48607B and new tools are always nice as they spice things up. However I kept thinking, didn’t Ridgid already have a cordless 18V brushless 7-1/4″ sliding miter saw? So I searched this website and found that they sure did and it’s the R48607K model and this model had been released back in summer of 2016. I noticed that my peers had reviewed it and that it looked a lot like the new one Ridgid was announcing. Well as it turns out it looks similar because it’s the same unit and the one and only difference is that the model name (which is the same by the way) now ends with a “B” instead of a “K”. I looked at the Home Depot and noticed that they didn’t have any cordless Ridgid miter saws for sale (at the time doing research) so I wondered if they were relaunching the said miter saw. So I reached out to Ridgid and they confirmed that they are re-releasing this cordless miter saw.

So while not a new miter saw at all it’s still a good thing as todays Ridgid users can enjoy a cordless 7-1/4″ miter saw from their favorite brand. I used to own the Dewalt 20V cordless 7-1/4″ miter saw and as much as I liked it, it was lacking certain features like a brushless motor and dual bevel. Both of which are features that are present on this Ridgid cordless model. The build quality from the pictures looks about as good as the Dewalt with a solid and sturdy looking base and I like that the Ridgid also has a miter cam lock tab for quick and easy locking miter angles in place and the same quick and easy unlocking as well. This may seem like a small insignificant feature but in practical terms it makes life a lot easier than a twist knob which many miter saws still have (*cough* *Bosch*).

I also asked Ridgid if this model had any new features and they said no, it’s just a re-release. Again, still not bad news as the original was already well featured and also has today’s best cut line system which is the LED cut line that Dewalt had pioneered and everyone is rushing to cash in on. It comes with the standard miter saw amenities like a rather basic material clamp, dust bag, and a vac port. I do like that though it doesn’t have extensions, it has somewhat of a little extra sideways real estate at both ends of the base and they also act as built in carry handles. Being a 7-1/4″ miter saw means it is compact and light and being battery operated only adds to its portability. It’s very light at only 24 lbs for a miter saw. Although it has small fences, it can cut up to 4″ of vertical cut capacity, not bad for such a small blade. Horizontal cut capacity is up to 2×8 lumber.

It’s priced at $379 as a baretool making it more expensive than the Dewalt’s offering as a kit with battery and charger. $379 gets you only the miter saw and you’ll still need to buy a battery and charger if you want to get to work although this shouldn’t be an issue for those already in the Ridgid system. Ridgid says this model will re-release again in February 2021.
