A new listing on HD has popped up with a new Ridgid 18V Jobmax base with multitool head. While the multitool Jobmax head that’s included in the listing is nothing new, the cordless Jobmax base is a new model and is the Ridgid 18V Octane Jobmax power base with included multitool head R862105B .
This is the first time the cordless Ridgid Jobmax power base includes a brushless motor and it’s also an Octane tool meaning it pairs well with Ridgid 18V Octane batteries for better communication and improved performance compared to regular hyper lithium batteries.
As far as the new Octane brushless Jobmax power base is concerned, it appears to be very similar to the previous brushed motor X4 version such as the same overall design with just a few cosmetic tweaks and many of the features carry over such as a large multifinger variable speed trigger, LED light with grip light button and the same backwards compatibility with all current Jobmax and Jobplus heads. The only major differences are the Octane branding and the brushless motor while the multitool head remains the same one as always. Ridgid claims this new Octane version of the Jobmax delivers 20% more power than their previous brushless unit when paired with an OCTANE battery. I don’t remember there ever being a previous brushless motor unit not part of the Octane family so I’m guessing it’s a typo where they meant when compared to the previous brushed motor instead. So expect 20% better performance than the previous brushed motor Jobmax 18V unit but only when you pair the Octane Jobmax power base with an Octane battery.
As always, the only way to buy the new Ridgid 18V Octane Jobmax power base is as a bundle with the multitool head but is still sold as a baretool without battery and charger with a price of $139. You can buy it in several combo kits as well. It’s available at the time of writing and my local HD store says there are 5 in stock.

Probably the most common complaint I hear with the X4 model is that it’s very prone to overheating after around 10 minutes of use. So far all my other Octane tools have been very good at heat management, so hope users can count on not overheating with this new model.
