Late last week Ryobi announced a bunch of new HP brushless power tools in the 18V and 40V lines with most of them being outdoor power equipment. They did mention a battery powered electric dirt auger and that is part of their 40V line. We learned that there was an 18 volt dirt auger from Ryobi back in late 2018 as the Ryobi 18V Brushless Planting & Digging Tool model ODT1800 however that model was spotted in Australia and not a USA model. I was taking a look at a new Ryobi cordless family photo showing off many of the new HP brushless 18V and 40V tools shown at the recent launch event and noticed one tool in particular that wasn’t mentioned in the launch event, an 18V dirt auger that looked very familiar. That’s because it is, it appears to be the same tool that we saw spotted in Australia and now spotted in the USA.

It’s hard to see from the small image above but we can clearly see it as a new 18V Ryobi dirt auger. What its exact name title and model number will be is currently unknown but I will reach out to Ryobi for more info. I do know it’s going to be a brushless model for two good reasons. First of all it looks to be a replica of the model spotted in Australia which is known to be a brushless model. The main difference is the USA model uses darker gray/black rubber overmolding in their handles but otherwise looks identical.
The second reason being all the other tools shown in the family picture which it was gathered from are all brushless cordless power tools so it wouldn’t make sense if the 18V dirt auger was a brushed model. However keep in mind me believing strongly to it having a brushless motor doesn’t make it a fact, we’ll have to wait and see if true or not when they officially announce it which I believe should be soon, although no word on when that would be.
I expect more info to come officially soon.
