While Ryobi already announced a new 18V HP brushless 7-1/4″ circular saw recently so they already have full size cordless circular saws to choose from and it’s nice that they included a bit more compact 6-1/2″ model to better fit with their smaller yet powerful 18V One+ HP compact brushless series of power tools. Back in the day, having a 6-1/2″ blade cordless circular saw was the best we could get but nowadays, it’s so easy to find a full size 7-1/4″ cordless model that sometimes it makes sense to stay with the smaller 6-1/2″ blade to keep the tool just a bit more compact. After all, that’s where cordless tools shine is at being compact. One downside to the smaller blade is that it’s harder to find a decent selection of these smaller blades when there’s a flood of full size 7-1/4″ blades to choose from, also the smaller blades are often more expensive as well, further adding to injury.

Though it is sporting a smaller 6-1/2″ blade, we can still expect strong performance thanks to its brushless motor and it can even churn the blade at 4,900 RPM no load speed! Brushless motors are also very efficient and sip batteries and thanks to that you can expect up to 350 cuts per charge, although Ryobi didn’t mention what size battery that cuts per charge claim was with. My guess is anywhere with a 4ah all the way to a single 6ah battery. Even with the smaller blade, it still has a respectable 2-1/4″ cut capacity at 90 degrees.

The shoe appears to be a stamped aluminum metal shoe but using thicker gauge than usual which is good for durability and the shoe’s overall size is very compact barely sticking out in either side. You can tell Ryobi wanted to keep a small footprint. No mention of whether the top blade guard is metal or a painted plastic that looks like metal. I’d say to expect a plastic upper blade guard but I would be pleasantly surprised if it was metal. The lower blade guard is “clearly” a plastic guard, sorry for the play on words, couldn’t help myself! The shoe allows up to 50 degrees of bevel capacity. The upper blade guard has a rear dust chute that doubles as a vac hose adaptor. It has an LED light up front and I like that it’s a left blade model making it easier to use for us right handers.

It will be available in September 2022 for $119 as a baretool.
