Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 20″ Self Propelled Multi Blade Lawn Mower

Ryobi is no stranger to lawn mowers and has a small army of them. Many are part of their 40 volt and 18 volt cordless lineups. This model runs on their 40 volt batteries and powers a strong brushless motor.

Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 20″ Self Propelled Multi Blade Lawn Mower – Features

While this isn’t Ryobi’s flagship battery powered mower, it does have a nice list of features. The brushless motor powers a modest 20 inch cross-cut multi-blade. It’s also a self propelled mower meaning it can push itself if needed. This can be useful at times, especially on inclines.

As shown in the image above, we can take a look at its undercarriage. There we see what this cross cut multi-blade system is all about. It’s basically a mower with two blades. Ryobi says this helps provide “superior cutting performance”.

There we also see that this mower is using a plastic deck instead of a more premium steel deck.

This is a 3in1 mower which means a bag is included and has the ability to mulch, bag, or side discharge. A side discharge flute and mulch plug are included. Ryobi says the bag is easy to lift and remove. It has a seven point height adjustment.

Of course, it has the ability to fold for easier storage.

The handle end is where you’ll spend most of your time operating this machine. Thanks to being a battery powered mower, you’ll benefit from easy push button starting. However I’m disappointed to see that a start key is required to operate. Not only does this require an extra unnecessary step and piece of hardware to operate, but you’ll be in trouble if you lose it. Fortunately the key can be stored in the battery compartment when not in use.

Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 20″ Self Propelled Multi Blade Lawn Mower – Battery Compartment

You’ll find a covered battery compartment which keeps the batteries safe from the elements. You only need one battery to operate and there are two battery compartments so you can carry an extra along for the ride. No word if the second battery compartment is an active battery port or not. Some mowers may have a second inactive “dummy” battery port so you can carry an extra battery with you. This helps so that when the first battery quits, you don’t have to walk all the way back to your garage to get another.

Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 20″ Self Propelled Multi Blade Lawn Mower – Runtime

This mower will run for approximately 52 minutes with the included 8ah battery. This is a modest runtime figure and is said to be able to cover a 1/2 acre or less. The included charger is a fast charger and can charge the included 8ah battery in about 80 minutes.

PRICING & AVAILABILITY

It will be priced at $579 as a kit RY401260VNM with 8ah battery and fast charger. No specific launch date is mentioned however Ryobi says we can expect it during Spring 2023.
