Ryobi RY40540 40V 8 Inch Pole Saw

Ryobi adds a RY40540 40V 8 Inch Pole Saw to their cordless 40 volt outdoor power equipment line.

It’s not exactly what I’d call an exciting addition since they already have plug in electric and 18 volt versions of their 8 inch pole saw but it’s a useful addition if you’re in their 40V line and need a cordless pole saw. It’s not much different from the other two mentioned and appears to use the same motor, motor housing and chain and bar, if not very similar. It probably has a bit more power than the 18V version which I have, I wouldn’t say it needs more power, maybe just cut a bit faster and hopefully this 40 volt version does that. One big difference I see between this 40V and the 18V model is that it includes a second handle in addition to the shoulder strap. It requires a tool to adjust tension and change out chain.

This model comes as a kit for $169 and it includes a 2.0ah battery and charger. It’s a bit more than the 18V version but the included 2ah battery should give you much more runtime than the included 1.3 ah battery included on the 18V version. The 2.0ah 40V battery would be similar in runtime to a 4.0ah 18V battery.
