In January 2022 we had learned that Ryobi was creating a new 4 volt battery power tool line called USB Lithium and they showed off 4 new tools. They did a good job at showcasing 3 of them while the fourth one, was mentioned and shown in pictures but not mentioned in detail. That 4 volt tool was the Ryobi USB Lithium screwdriver model FVD50K and they have shed more light on that model which we will be discussing below.

Ryobi is no stranger to 4 volt electric screwdrivers. At the time of writing, you can find 3 different models on the Home Depot website, two with non-user replaceable batteries and one with a user replaceable battery. That last one is their Tek-4 which was their previous interchangeable battery 4 volt line up. Tek4 still exists today however it seems that USB Lithium is the direction Ryobi is headed today and they offer a new 4 volt electric screwdriver with the FVD50K USB lithium model seen here. What’s cool about the new USB lithium line is that the battery itself has a USB-C charging port which means that the battery can be charged with regular USB chargers we have plenty of around the house and the same battery powers the rest of the Ryobi USB lithium tools as well.
Anyways, back to the Ryobi USB Lithium screwdriver, it’s just a barebones electric screwdriver that gets the job done without and fancy pants features. It is trigger operated with dual LED’s in the front and a bit holder underneath. It’s biggest feature is that it can twist to rotate and make it an inline screwdriver or traditional pistol grip design. It doesn’t have fancy features like gyroscope operated design or selectable torque settings like those found on the Dewalt 8V Max gyroscope model. Ryobi also doesn’t provide any torque specs either so it probably has the guts to drive things like machine screws and wood screws into predrilled holes at a minimum.
Ryobi says their new USB Lithium Screwdriver FVD50K will launch in May 2022 for $39.
