SawStop Compact Table Saw CTS-120A60 – A New Portable & Affordable Model?

Table saws are some of the most dangerous power tools and SawStop is one brand that offers a safety feature onto their saws that not only stops the blade when it comes in contact with skin but also lowers the blade below the table quickly. Their table saws offer impressive safety however most of their table saws are not travel friendly and are expensive. Their latest table saw, the SawStop Compact Table Saw CTS-120A60 breaks away from that trend and offers a more portable and lower priced alternative.

The SawStop Compact Table Saw CTS-120A60 is a compact and portable jobsite table saw which steps away from their usual cabinet table saws that live in the corner of a shop, their new compact table saw can easily be picked up and transported to any jobsite with ease. Of course this isn’t SawStop’s first portable table saw as they’ve had a jobsite table saw that is larger and heavier and pricier as well, in the $1.5k range keeping it out of the reach of many. SawStop’s latest compact table saw model is dare I say “affordable” at $899. Whether $899 is affordable is up to you to decide but one thing is for sure, this is SawStop’s most affordable table saw yet and it still features their standout safety feature where it stops the blade when it comes into contact with skin and lowers it below the table in less than 5 milliseconds.

I do like that it has a modern design with a roll cage frame and its fence can be moved about thanks to its rack and pinion system similar to what was started on Dewalt table saws. The fence can be extended for up to 24-1/2″ rip capacity to the right which is average, though it would have been nice if it could go as far as 28 or 32 inches for the price point like other portable jobsite table saws from Dewalt and Metabo HPT (formerly known as Hitachi) can do. The saw can run on 120V ac power, has no load 4,000 RPM’s and has a max depth of cut of 3-1/8″ at 0 degrees and 2-1/8″ at 45 degrees. It weighs in at 68 lbs. The bevel wheel offers micro adjustments which is a nice feature that reminds me of what you’d find on a router to fine tune and micro adjust the cutting depth but in this case is used to micro adjust the bevel tilt of the table saw blade. A very cool feature to find on a table saw! The fence offers similar functionality to a Dewalt table saw fence with a flip out low fence that’s good for thin cuts. The right side of the saw offers storage for some of the the onboard accessories such as the blade guard and for an extra safety brake cartridge. This saw only comes with one brake cartridge installed, while extras can be purchased separately. The saw comes by itself and SawStop offers a matching folding stand for an extra $129 and extra brake cartridges are $95 each. Prices at time of writing.

  • SawStop’s patented Safety System stops the spinning blade on contact with skin and drops it below the table in less than 5 milliseconds.
  • Portable Durability: Heavy-duty construction, that’s built to last, provides the stability you need for smooth cuts on the job site. The compact size, carry handle and on-saw storage mean you have everything you need at hand.
  • Rack & Pinion Fence: Easy to adjust or remove and always square, the rack & pinion fence has built-in high and low shelf to support all types of cuts.
  • Quick-Tilt Bevel with Micro Adjustments : Quickly and easily tilt the blade to your ideal angle. Further fine-tune in 1 degree increments with the micro tilt-adjust feature.
