Skilsaw announces a new 10 inch Heavy Duty worm drive table saw. The new worm drive table saw looks similar to the one that Skilsaw introduced back in 2015 but improves on it on several aspects.
Sharing much of the DNA with the original worm drive table saw model, it has a similar metal frame roll cage design and worm drive drivetrain, but that’s where the similarities end. The new heavy duty model comes bundled with a gravity lift style rolling stand with huge 16″ wheels that will allow it to easily traverse rugged terrain.
The previous model had very respectable capacities but the new Heavy Duty model raises the bar with a large 3-5/8 inch cutting depth and a massive 30-1/2 inch rip capacity! Skilsaw could have stopped there and they’d have a winner on their hands but they also added a rack and pinion fence system so you can easily dial in how much you want to cut.
What’s also interesting is that it will include an elbow that once installed onto the dust port, will make it easy to contain sawdust into a container such as a 5 gallon bucket.
So basically it’s a portable jobsite table saw with some pretty serious specs and is priced at $579.
My thoughts are that Skilsaw was aiming right at Dewalt’s DWE7491RS Table Saw with Rolling Stand as the Skilsaw is similarly equipped most notably with an included rolling stand and rack and pinion fence system, although better in some respects. A direct comparison between the two models shows that they are both priced the same while the Dewalt has a slightly larger rip capacity at 32-1/2 inches, but in Skilsaw’s favor it has a larger cut depth and in my opinion has a better built-in gravity lift style stand that should make it easier and faster to set up than Dewalt’s. The Skilsaw also has larger wheels which will no doubt make it easier rolling around on rugged terrain, although Dewalt’s is just fine in this regard. Another serious table saw contender that also has a rolling stand and rack and pinion fence is Hitachi’s Table saw with fold and roll stand (click here to learn more).
