UK Exclusive 2 New Bosch 18V Brushless Impact Drivers

The UK gets two new exclusive 18V brushless impact drivers with the GDR 18 V-200 C Professional Impact Driver and the GDX 18 V-200 C Professional Impact Driver / Wrench.

Basically both new Bosch brushless 18V impact drivers are based on the same body and drivetrain and both offer the same torque of 200 Nm which translates to 1770 in-lbs torque, same o-3,400 RPM’s and also feature bluetooth connectivity, the biggest difference between the two models is that while the GDR 18 V-200 C has a standard 1/4″ hex chuck, the GDX 18 V-200 C model inherits the hybrid 1/2 inch socket ready impact driver chuck from the so called FREAK IDH182 here in the USA. It’s the exact same chuck found on the IDH182 model.

This is great news because the IDH182 while a great impact driver back in  2o14 seems a bit dated by today’s standards with younger fresher competition sporting more torque and better performance. My guess is that with 1,770 in-lbs torque will make it more competitive with today’s pro impact driver crowd however is still a bit behind in torque. This appears to be the trend with many Bosch cordless power tools as they are not interested in winning the fierce torque race but in my opinion they should be as lot’s of people do care about torque especially when they want the most bang for their hard earned money and these “pro” tools aren’t exactly inexpensive.

The impact driver model is said to be 126mm in length which translates to 4.96 inches in length which makes it very compact for an impact driver but still not the most compact. That award goes to Makita’s and Milwaukee’s latest and greatest impact models.

While the impact driver model appears to have a light ring behind the chuck, this is not present on the 1/2″ socket ready impact model. This means that the impact driver only model doesn’t have a light ring and instead both models have the LED light on the base of the tool above the battery holder directly on the speed controls.

It appears this tool will have 3 speeds and similar buttons as the IDH182 to change speeds and turn off LED lighting.

What’s strange about this bluetooth connected device and all other Bosch bluetooth tools is that the bluetooth module is removable. I’m not sure why you’d ever need to remove the module? I could understand if the bluetooth feature was optional as it is on the USA brushless grinder, but when it comes packaged with the tool, it doesn’t make sense.

Big thanks to SP for bringing this to my attention!

As always, too late for Bosch to enter the race… 🙁

I’ve purchased the gdr version, not interested in a half in. chuck, through Amazon.de (Germany). Took 11 days to arrive but we’ll worth the wait. Great tool. So much more powerful than the idh182. I love it.
