USA Spec Ryobi 18V Brushless 12 Inch Chainsaw P549

Earlier this year we learned that Ryobi was making a new 18V brushless chainsaw. This news was impressive because it shows that Ryobi is serious about brushless technology. Unfortunately for us in North America the news was of a new Australian model but we have good news because the USA spec model was spotted in the USA Ryobi website, the Ryobi 18V Brushless 12 Inch Chainsaw P549 .

Cosmetically it appears to be the same unit as the Australian model although us in the USA get an upgrade as they fitted a larger 12 inch bar and chain to the body. That’s two additional inches compared to the 10 incher Aussie model.

I believe they did this since Ryobi’s current 18V brushed motor chainsaw is a 10 inch model and since the average person doesn’t know what brushless motor technology is and what it’s benefits are, would probably go for the cheaper brushed model if both models had the same 10 inch bar and chain.

Being a 12 inch 18V model is pretty impressive considering that it can compete with more premium brands like Dewalt’s 20V brushless 12 inch chainsaw and even Makita’s older X2 36V 12 inch model.

We should see this new model out soon at HD although I’m not sure of the price. I do know one thing and that it will sell as a kit with a 4.0ah battery and charger.
