Bosch GKF12V-25N 12V Max Palm Edge Router – USA Version

The European version of the Bosch 12V router was spotted September of 2017 however other than it’s existance and a picture, we didn’t have any details on it or of a USA release until now that they’ve finally released this same router to the USA. It is called the Bosch GKF12V-25N 12V Max Palm Edge Router here in the states.

What’s interesting about this router is that not only is it a cordless router but it’s also a 12V router. It wasn’t too long ago that 18V routers from Ridgid and Makita came onto the tool scene however even those aren’t the first corldess units as Porter Cable had a cordless router ages ago.

Just like it’s 18V router competition from Ridgid and Makita, the Bosch 12V GKF12V-25 Palm Edge Router also features a brushless motor. It needs to use brushless motor because it takes a lot of juice to power a high speed motor with enough torque to cut and a brushless motor provides the efficient answer.

The unit runs at 13,000 RPM and has constant speed circuitry that monitors and maintains speed under load for consistent performance. It also comes equipped with restart protection that prevents accidental startups when switching batteries. As far as runtime goes, it provides up to 23 feet of roundover capacity per battery amp hour (Ah) which seems pretty good in my opinion. An easy-change spindle lock offers fast macro-depth adjustment and easy fine-depth adjustment. Since it is a 12 volt tool, it’s small and compact and only weighs in at 2.2 lbs (tool only) which is about the same as a lightweight 12V impact driver. It uses a 1/4 inch self releasing collet for router bits and comes with a collet wrench. Other key features include a finger barrier to help prevent contact with the bit area when the tool is in operation and a drop-detection sensor that stops the motor if the tool is dropped.

It will be available June 2018 for a price of $149 as a baretool.
