Hercules Circular Saw Beam Cutter
Ever wished your circular saw could cut deeper than around 2-1/2″ inches? How about cutting through a 4×4 in only one pass? Your only option would be to get a larger circular saw, right? While they do have larger circular saws that have a blade as big as 16-5/16 inches, that only gives you about a 6-1/4″ cutting capacity. What if you want to cut something larger, like up to 12 inches for example? You can use a chainsaw but that requires another tool to your arsenal.
What if you could just attach a chainsaw to your circular saw? While this may sound farfetched, this is a thing. A brand called Prazi has already been doing this for some time now. They have an attachment that gives your circular saw a chainsaw bar and chain instead of a circular blade. However they are not cheap at around $169 for the attachment only.
That’s where Harbor Freight comes in to save the day as we know most of the stuff they make is priced lower than their competition. Sometimes by quite a bit. They now offer a Hercules branded circular saw beam cutter attachment similar to the Prazi beam cutter. However the Hercules is priced at only $59.99. If you bought your circular saw from Harbor Freight, you probably paid less for the saw than the price of the attachment. But $59.99 is a lot cheaper than $169. By about $109 buckaroos.
Hercules Circular Saw Beam Cutter – Features
The Hercules beam cutter attaches to your circular saw to provide up to 12 inches of cutting capacity. Not only does it give you a much deeper cut capacity, but it offers some additional benefits over a regular chainsaw. Since it’s running on an electric saw, there are no gas fumes to deal with. This means you can work inside and not have to worry about harmful fumes. True, an electric chainsaw wouldn’t have this issue either.
Since this attachment works with an existing circular saw, the saws shoe would make for an easier experience when cutting. And also to help keep cuts square with little effort.
Just like a chainsaw, this beam cutter attachment is said to have an automatic oiling system. As these chains need proper lubrication to operate properly.
At the rear you’ll find a riving knife like guide bar which helps keep cuts straight. Harbor Freight says this beam cutter attachment is compatible with both conventional (sidewinder) and worm drive circular saws.
So far, there’s one review for this beam cutter by a “Stephen” who gives this product 5 out of 5 stars. His review was written on January 1, 2023 and he says it works better than he thought. He also likes how square the cuts are. He shows some photos with a square rested on the blade and shoe along with the cut piece. He comments on the cut quality showing some tear-out. Not smooth like a standard circular saw blade but he thinks this would be less if the lumber was “fresh”.
