Milwaukee M18 Fuel 6, 9, & 12 Gallon Wet/Dry Vacuums

Milwaukee just announced three new M18 Fuel wet/dry vacuums with a 6 gallon, 9 gallon, and 12 gallon models! Not just that but they are said to be as strong as corded vacuums and are designed to outperform 3.5 HP vacuums on the market according to Milwaukee!

I want to start off by saying that while you can get these as individual wet/dry vacuums, they are more of a system. What I mean by that is that they are an interchangeable system where the motor head can be swapped out as there are more than one motor heads, there is a total of three.

Shown above are two motor heads with the single battery head on the left which Milwaukee says outperforms 3.5 peak HP vacuums. This head comes standard on the M18 Fuel 6 gallon wet/dry vacuum. On the right you see the dual battery head which uses and requires two M18 batteries to operate and is said to outperform 4.25 peak HP vacuums. This head comes standard on the 9 gallon and 12 gallon models. As of right now, Milwaukee only makes claims of being able to outperform vacuums of certain peak horse power but they do not disclose how much CFM suction they are capable of. Sister brand Ryobi just announced a 40V 10 gallon wet/dry vacuum that is rated at 80 CFM which has slightly more suction than a Ridgid NXT 4.25 HP vacuum so my guess is that the dual battery head could also be around 80 CFM’s (more or less) and the single battery head will be noticeably less than that. It’s interesting to note that the dual battery head requires two batteries meaning it can’t operate on one battery. You don’t need to go higher than 18 volts to produce 80 CFM suction as Ryobi can do that with their 6 gallon 18 volt vacuum just fine but my guess is that Milwaukee pushes the user to require two M18 batteries so that the runtime is not cut short. According to Milwaukee, they state that the runtime for the dual battery head is as follows: “max power mode delivers up to 34 minutes of continuous cleaning time (up to 1,600 ft²) and up to 49 minutes (up to 1,800 ft²) on max run-time mode per charge” and that’s with a pair of 12ah batteries. I think they should have made the dual battery head capable of running on only one battery but still give it dual battery bays so the user has the option to use one or two batteries, with two for extended runtime but they probably didn’t as uninformed users may complain about battery life on a single battery on the more powerful motor head of the two.

So far I’ve just discussed two out of the three motor heads and above is a picture of the AC motor head and it’s rated for 6.5 peak HP! According to OhioPowerTool, this head is rated at 145 CFM and 88” suction. This is the motor head to get if you need maximum power and runtime on your Milwaukee wet/dry vacuums although at $199 it aint cheap and that’s just for the motor head unit itself, as you still need the tank container and a hose to complete the vacuum or you can pick up a complete standalone corded 6.5 peak HP vacuum for as low as $149. Of course the benefit of the Milwaukee 6.5 peak HP motor head unit is that it’s fully compatible with Milwaukee’s 6, 9, and 12 gallon vacs so you can swap heads to your contentment. I wish they would offer a 6.5 hp option that ran on battery power alone but we probably need much larger capacity batteries than is available today to make the runtime practical.

Above is an image of the swappable tank containers and as you already know, they come in 6, 9, and 12 gallon sizes. They come bundled in the vacuum kits and you can also purchase them separately as tank containers only at $79, $89, and $99 respectively which also makes them more dinero than similar sized standalone corded vacs.

As part of the system are carts that the vacuum units rest on and have wheels to make them mobile. There are two carts available, the regular cart which has 4 360 degree castors on all four corners that comes bundled with the 6 & 9 gallon models and there’s the premium cart with large oversized rear wheels and two smaller 360 degree castors up front and in the rear has a telescoping handle to easily push the vacuums while standing. The premium cart comes bundled with the 12 gallon vacuum. Both carts have onboard storage in the rear for accessories.

The hose is also not one but comes in two flavors. There’s a 1-7/8″x9″ hose that comes standard with the 6 and 9 gallon models and there’s a 2-1/2″x9″ that comes standard on the 12 gallon model, but of course both hoses can be bought as separate options to complete your collection. Both models are said to be crush and twist resistant for longer life.

So the biggest benefit of the three new vacuums, is that they are a system that you can mix and match motor heads and tanks for different size capacities and performance to match the job as you wouldn’t want a 12 gallon vacuum when working in the confined space of a bathroom or wouldn’t want less power when working with a larger mess.

Milwaukee new AIR-TIP vacuum accessories.

Milwaukee Tool set out to solve user needs with 19 innovative AIR-TIP™ Trade Focused Vacuum Accessories that are fully compatible with other wet/dry vacuum brands. Setting a new standard for products once seen as a commodity, Milwaukee Tool focuses on innovation at the end of the hose. The range of new vacuum accessories includes new to world designs, improvements to dated options, and integration of cordless technology to the vacuum accessory line for maximum efficiency throughout the workday. These improvements will help users clean faster, reach places they have not been able to reach before, and upgrade the overall jobsite cleanup experience.

As part of the new M18 Fuel wet/dry vacuum announcement, they also announced a new line of vacuum attachment accessories with 19 of them with the name “AIR-TIP”. There are 19 in total and Milwaukee says they are making improvements to otherwise “dated” vacuum accessory options. For example, they made an M12 AIR-TIP utility nozzle that integrates a spinning brush powered by a motor running an M12 battery in which Milwaukee says is able to pick up more debris in one pass than a standard vac attachment nozzle.

The M12 AIR-TIP utility nozzle is the standout accessory of the bunch and is the only one sporting its own motor but the other accessories are still good options with many different nozzles and brushes for different uses. They also come in Milwaukee red and look to be well built.
