Cordless 4-1/2 inch grinders have been around for several years and just in the past year have tool brands been coming out with large 9 inch cordless angle grinders. Makita and Metabo have been some that have done this, however they needed 36 volt power to accomplish this. So it’s impressive to see that Milwaukee accomplished a cordless large 9 inch angle grinder with only 18 volts! It’s no surprise they were able to do this as sister company AEG (Ridgid) was able to do this and while running on 18 volt batteries as well. No doubt the new Milwaukee M18 Fuel 9 Inch Large Angle Grinder is built to take advantage of their newly announced 12.0 ah battery.
The new Milwaukee M18 Fuel 9 Inch Large Angle Grinder 2785-21HD takes advantage of the new 12.0 ah battery and the grinder itself is said to offer the same performance of a corded 15 amp grinder! Yet is up to 2 lbs lighter.

Double check me, but I think the AEG grinder mentioned in this article used two 18volt batteries. Although I don’t recall if they were wired in series or parallel.
Good observation. While the AEG brushless grinder has slots to hold two batteries, it only requires one to operate so it’s a 18v 9 inch grinder. Adding a second battery increases runtime.
