Milwaukee Silently Updates Their M18 2 Gallon Wet Dry Vacuum 0880-20

If you buy Milwaukee’s M18 2 gallon wet dry vac 0880-20 , you might notice that it’s not the same exact model as before. Check out my review on the original model by clicking here. At first it looks very similar but newer somehow and that’s because it has a slight cosmetic update on the exterior, but more changes have been done than appear to the eye.

The biggest difference to the updated model is that they did away with the hose having a built in holder on the side to store the hose. Now the hose is stored inside underneath the top lid. The next update is that the top section now has recessed compartments to fit and store the crevice nozzle and utility nozzle as opposed to the previous model had a flat surface and clips to hold each accessory in place. The old setup was ok but I many times don’t line up the utility nozzle just right which won’t let me close the top lid but easily fixed with a minor placement adjustment. Not a big deal but a minor annoyance here and there but won’t be on the new updated model.

They also did away with the ability to accept the old Milwaukee V18 batteries which have long been discontinued. I don’t have any of the old batteries so I have no complaint here and was probably done to save money on manufacturing these vacs but maybe some that still have and use the older batteries might miss this feature however I don’t think there are many left that still use the older batteries.

Other than that it seems all the other features are there like a 2 gallon capacity and built in blower port. It seems the performance stats stay the same as HD is listing this with the same 45 CFM of the previous model so don’t expect an increase in suction performance.

All in all this seems like a mild update, mostly cosmetic and has to do with onboard storage. Expect the same performance and similar yet slightly updated styling. One drawback I’ve heard from others is that you have to open the lid each and everytime you operate the tool because the hose is stored underneath it’s top lid, so you have to open each time to gain access to it. You did not have to go through this process each and everytime on the older model because the hose is stored outside and easy and ready to access all the time.

Price stays the same at $99 on the new model and what’s also interesting is that the “new” model keeps and recycles the old 0880-20 model number so it’s technically not a new model just an update of a current product. I also didn’t hear any announcements from Milwaukee regarding this new “update” so it seems they silently updated one of their tools. Milwaukee did the same thing with their M12 brushed model single speed screwdriver. This makes me wonder what other Milwaukee tools might have been silently updated without notice?

I’m still hoping Milwaukee eventually takes everything we like about this model and makes a Fuel version by adding a strong brushless motor with even better performance and runtime. What would also be great would be if they also made a larger cordless wheeled wet dry vacuum similar to Ryobi’s P770 which is said to have corded performance. Learn more about that Ryobi model by clicking here. This is something that Milwaukee can easily do since we know that TTI makes tools for Milwaukee and Ryobi so they can easily share technology and know how.
