New Makita 18V Brushless Curved Shaft String Trimmer XRU08Z

Following their commitment to eco friendly outdoor power equipment, Makita has come out with another cordless 18V string trimmer, the Makita 18V Brushless Curved Shaft String Trimmer XRU08Z.

Makita already has a brushless 18V string trimmer but this model differentiates itself with its curved shaft. It’s curved shaft is also telescoping near the user (extends 60-1/2″ – 64-1/2″ length) so it can accommodate users of different heights.

Just like the previous model it’s a 2 speed trimmer with 0-5,000 / 0-6,000 RPM and has a 11-3/4″ cutting swath.

This new model gets great runtime with up to 37 minutes of runtime on HIGH when paired with a 18V Makita 5.0 battery which is fantastic for an 18V string trimmer. Runtime on low is 44 minutes when using a Makita 18V 5.0 battery which very good although not as great as the previous straight shaft 18V brushless string trimmer which pumped out up to 60 minutes of runtime on low and using a smaller 3.0 battery. My guess for the reason that the previous model has better runtime on low could be because it operates on lower RPM’s when in it’s lower speed at 3,500 RPM.

This Makita 18V Brushless Curved Shaft String Trimmer XRU08Z comes with a couple of neat extras such as a shoulder strap to lessen the weight of the trimmer from your arms, and also includes a set of safety goggles.

It includes a flip out wire frame near the head that helps out when used as an edger and it flips back up onto the head when not in use.

Line feeding is easy with a convenient bump feed head, and also features an electric brake that stops the string from spinning when you let go of the power switch.
