New Ryobi 18V Brushed Power Tools and Combo Kits

Ryobi has announced 8 new 18V power tools and a light that they will be selling as combo kits and individual baretools. All of these new cordless power tools are brushed motor and include a drill/driver, hammer drill, impact driver, impact wrench, circular saw, reciprocating saw, multi-tool, and a light (lights don’t have brushes since they don’t have motors). A big thanks to DrewBHAM and Daniel for spotting several of these prior to the official Ryobi announcement!

The above image shows 6 of the new Ryobi 18V tools and in order from left to right include the impact driver, 1/2″ drill/driver, LED light, multi-tool, reciprocating saw, and 6-1/2″ circular saw. They appear to be all new tools, as in new model numbers and the model numbers are provided below with their specs bullet list. It’s nice to see that Ryobi has been working hard to push all segments of their 18V power tools and have been building up their upper range with brushless tools with higher specs and performance. It’s nice to see that here they are rounding out their lower/middle range with solid brushed motor power tools. I wouldn’t call all of these entry level as the drill/driver has a 1/2″ chuck and boasts 515 in-lbs torque which is far above entry level and the same goes with the impact driver that boasts a strong 1,800 in-lbs of torque. The LED light is well a basic flashlight that brands love to include in combo kits to up the number of tools included in a kit. For example, the above image is considered a 6 tool combo kit which has 5 power tools and the light technically makes it 6 tools because at the end of the day a light is in fact a tool. These lights are a dime a dozen and are cheap to manufacture but at least it has good specs of 280 lumens of brightness which is considerably higher than previous combo kit lights of around 120-160 lumens. The head pivots 130 degrees to help with angling in just the right direction. It doesn’t mention a hook though. The reciprocating saw might be entry level but it does have a quick release lever on the side which makes it far more convenient that jamming your fingers inside the cramped shoe area. No mention of LED light or antivibration tech. The circular saw and multitool look to be entry level models. This is because the multitool while having an LED light which is an extra feature, it doesn’t have a tool-free way of removing blades so it looks like you’ll need to bust out the old hex key and manually untighten the included bolt to replace blades. They do say that it has the lowest vibration in its category. I wonder if that means lowest vibration in the entry level category? They don’t specify. But they do say it has fast cutting up to 20,000 max OPM. The cutting angle is not disclosed. They also went with a trigger and variable speed dial design. I’m not a big fan of triggers on multitools as you’ll get tired of holding it for continuous use. Some people are ok with this but I feel all multitools should have slide lock on switches instead but that’s just my personal preference. The circular saw uses a smaller 5-1/2″ blade. Not the smallest 18V circ saw in the tool world but pretty small for 18 volt so that’s why I say this is entry level. It should have no issues cutting through 2×4 in a single pass but barely have just the needed clearance to do so. And these smaller circular saws also don’t have the performance of larger blade saws.

All the above power tools can be found in a variety of other combo kits but in this case, they are shown in a 6 tool combo kit which includes a 4ah battery and compact 1.5ah battery, charger and tool bag for $299.

RYOBI™ 18V ONE+™ 1/2″ HAMMER DRILL (TOOL ONLY) PCL220B MSRP: $69

The new 1/2 brushed motor hammer drill is based on the drill/driver in the 6 tool combo kit but has the addition of the hammer drill mechanism. That means this hammer drill can be set to hammer drill mode which has a slight rapid-fire hammering action as it rotates to drill into concrete. It has 28,000 BPM. Being based on the above drill/driver, it also features the same drivetrain and torque specs of 0 – 450 / 0 – 1,750 RPM and 515 in-lbs respectively. While the chuck is similar in size to the 1/2″ drill/driver, it appears to be a different on and Ryobi says the 1/2″ chuck on the hammer drill is a metal ratcheting chuck which is a nice upgrade. It will be priced at $69 as a baretool.

  • Powerful motor provides up to 515 in-lbs. of torque
  • Fast drilling through concrete and masonry with 0 – 28,000 BPM
  • 2-speed gearbox provides 0 – 450 / 0 – 1,750 RPM

RYOBI™ 18V ONE+™ 3/8″ IMPACT WRENCH (TOOL-ONLY) PCL250B MSRP: $99

The new 18V 3/8″ impact wrench is what the industry would call a “compact” impact wrench because it’s not as bulky as a full sized high torque monster, though the Ryobi impact wrench isn’t the most compact by any means in its class and is actually on the heftier side of a “compact” model. It is based on the impact driver shown in the 6 tool combo kit and appears to have the same drivetrain although the torque has been bumped up to 220 ft-lbs which is usually the case. The light is on the base of the tool below the handle pointing upwards at the bit. This position is better than right below the anvil however a better option would have been a ring of light around the anvil with three lights but this is something we’re seeing less and less in the industry possibly to save on costs.  The new 3/8″ brushed motor impact wrench will be available for $99 as a baretool.

  • Powerful motor delivers up to 220 ft-lbs. torque and up to 3,400 IPM
  • 3/8″ anvil with friction ring
  • Variable speed trigger with 0-2,700 RPM
  • On-board LED worklight
  • Part of the RYOBI™ 18V ONE+™ System of over 260 Cordless Tools
  • 3-year manufacturer’s warranty
  • Includes: 18V 3/8″ Impact Wrench and Operator’s Manual
  • This tool will be available in tool only and various kit configurations exclusively at The Home Depot and HomeDepot.com
