Ryobi 18V HP Compact Brushless 5/8″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer PSBRH01B

Ryobi has announced a new compact brushless rotary hammer to their 18 volt lineup with the 18V HP Compact Brushless 5/8″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer PSBRH01B. A big thanks to Ryobi for announcing the new rotary hammer and DrewBHAM for spotting it as well!

This isn’t Ryobi’s first cordless rotary hammer as they had a green brushed 1/2″ rotary hammer, the P22 model. They also recently came out with a spiffy new 1″ brushless model as well and it’s nice to see them round out the line up with an additional compact brushless model with the PSBRH01B. The PSBRH01B reminds me of the original green P22 model as they’re both compact yet the newer PSBRH01B model has the brushless motor and a little more oomph with a slightly larger 5/8″ capacity. While it was a little strange that the original P222 model with 1/2″ capacity had 3 modes which included hammer drilling, drilling only, and hammer only as it possibly didn’t have the grunt to be very effective at chipping only, the newer brushless model removes the chipping only mode by making it a two model rotary hammer of hammer drilling and rotary only modes. This way users do not get disappointed by a weak chipping only mode and those that need an effective chipping model can step up to their brushless 1″ model.

The two mode dial is seen on the left side of the tool and as you can see it’s a compact model at 11.4 inches in length. Its compact size also helps it to be lighter, in fact Ryobi says it’s 43% lighter than its big brother the 1″ brushless P223 model. The small size and weight helps it to go into places larger models can’t and also helps for overhead work. Ryobi doesn’t say anything about any anti vibration technology but it looks as though there’s some sort of vibration dampening going on where the top section of the handle connects to the top of the tool looks like it might flex a bit to reduce vibration. Not sure if that’s the case so only a hands on session with the tool will let us know. As far as tech specs are concerned, it has up to 6,200 BPM and also features an LED light as well to help illuminate low light environments.

It will be available in June 2022 for $149 as a baretool.
