Ryobi has announced a new cordless 18 volt jigsaw with the PCL525B brushed motor jig saw model.

The PCL525B is Ryobi’s latest 18V jigsaw and is a brushed motor model. This is the model to get if you don’t need all the latest and greatest and would like to save a bit and still get the job done. No brushless motor but it still has a variable speed trigger with lock/on button, 4 orbital settings (off and 3 settings which help cut more aggressively and for faster cutting), LED light at the cut line, and a base that tilts to allow for bevel cuts 0° to 45° right or left. It accepts most t-shank blades and blade changes are tool-free but honestly just about all jig saws nowadays have tool-less blade changes. The base is probably what needs a tool like a hex key to tilt to bevel as it was with a previous brushed model I tried out. The base does come with a plastic piece for non-marring.
This new model will be available August 2022 for $69 as baretool.

Why do we need another brushed jigsaw? 10 years ago brushless motors were a novelty, an expensive one at that, not anymore, it’s cheaper to make a brushless motor now, what’s the point of brushed ones? I don’t get it.
