I’ve always considered Ryobi to be a solid brand for its price point. Not that they had the best features or performance but a brand you can count on to deliver quality for those on a lower budget. But today, Ryobi has announced a new cordless power tool that might just change my opinion of them for the better. This new product is the Ryobi 40V HP Brushless WHISPER SERIES Jet Fan Blower RY404100VNM.

Every year, new tools come out and every manufacturer wants to stand out on top by leapfrogging the competition. Cordless power tool brand Ego has come out with a very impressive battery powered leaf blower that with 650 CFM at 180 MPH which they claimed was the “world’s most powerful handheld blower.” Keep in mind that Ego’s blower is 56 volt, a higher voltage than Ryobi’s 40 volt system. So if Ryobi was to come near to those specs with their lower 40 volt blower, I’d be impressed. But they weren’t satisfied with trying to come close the competition, but to surpass it, leapfrog the competition. And so they did with their latest 40V blower which pumps out a claimed 730 CFM at 190 MPH! That’s insane! Is this the same Ryobi we’ve come to know?
It appears that under normal usage with the variable speed trigger, you may get up to 550 CFM which is still very strong performance and if it topped out there, it would still be a solid high performance product but then you have the turbo button to unleash its full force of 730 CFM. It has a cruise control knob to help out your trigger finger and dial in between 250 to 550 CFM.
Out of the box, its max speed is 160 MPH so in order to achieve the claimed 190 MPH, you need to use the included speed tip as shown below to focus the air further to achieve the higher claimed 190 MPH to feed your need for speed.
As the title suggests, it’s packing a brushless motor. As its Whisper Series naming suggests it’s also designed to cut down on noise at a claimed 57 decibels loudness. This is said to be thanks to its jet fan design along with the use of sound dampening tech. Runtime is said to be up to 1 hour with a 4ah battery at 300 CFM. Going full blast with the turbo 730 CFM will deplete battery power much faster. According to Ryobi, you can get a combined total runtime of up to 2 hours at 300 CFM when using both of the included 4ah batteries.
We can expect this new blower to launch in August 2021 and will be sold in kit form model RY404100VNM for $299 which includes: the 40V HP Brushless Whisper Series Blower, (2) 40V 4 Ah Batteries, 40V Rapid Charger, (2) Speed Tip Attachments, and Operator’s Manuals. One thing that Ryobi lagged way behind the competition when it came to higher voltage outdoor power tools was battery charging speed. But with recent developments like their new 40V rapid charger which is included in the kit with this blower, it can charge the included 4ah batteries in about 40 minutes which is pretty good!
