Ridgid 18V Brushless 14″ String Trimmer – Features
In today’s announcement, they’ve only given us the main tidbits of info. What we know so far is that the new string trimmer is sporting a brushless motor. It runs dual 0.095″ line and a 12-14 inch cutting swath. It uses a bump feed head and Ridgid says new line reloads in 60 seconds or less. It’s a 2 speed string trimmer with variable speed trigger. The metal shaft is a two piece design to fold for storage. Ridgid states you can get max performance with their Max Output batteries.
So far it looks like a well featured string trimmer in the 18V segment. It will be available as a kit or baretool. The kit comes with an 18V battery and charger.
Design Compared to AEG 18V String Trimmer
Back in 2017 we had learned that AEG had an 18V string trimmer. AEG is what Ridgid power tools are known as outside of the USA.
The AEG model is shown above and as we can see, the two are not identical. However there are some some similarities. The two piece shaft, handle, and motor housing and handle look very similar. The guard at the bottom is vastly different and is smaller on the Ridgid. The string trimmer heads also look a bit different. And there’s a “knob” looking piece on the top of the shaft on the AEG that doesn’t appear on the Ridgid. Feature’wise, ,both have brushless motors and two speeds with variable speed triggers.
