Ryobi is at it again with 4 new USB Lithium tools and two of them include a new 1/4″ and 3/8″ ratchet. The other two are a pivoting laser flashlight and LED magnifying light. Let’s check them out below.

Ryobi USB Lithium 1/4″ & 3/8″ Ratchet
2 of the new Ryobi USB Lithium tools are new 1/4″ and 3/8″ ratchets. Since they are part of the USB lithium line, it means that they are compact. Yet they still put out 140 in-lbs of torque. Not a massive number of torque by any means but very respectable considering their size.
They are powered ratchets and can also be used manually where you provide the grunt needed to fasten or loosen. Or let the built in motor do the work for you. Either or.
A built in LED light provides illumination for a helping hand in low light.
Both will be available in August 2023 for $69 as a kit with 2ah battery and USB cable.

Ryobi USB Lithium LED Pivoting Laser Flashlight FVL54K
This little flashlight provides a 180 degree pivoting head that outputs up to 625 lumens with three brightness settings. A laser pointer is built in to help point to hard to reach objects. The included 2ah battery provides up to 16 hours of runtime on its lowest brightness setting. It has a durable housing with IP54 rating for water and dust resistance.
The magnetic base allows for hands free use in a pinch. A clip is also included to be worn in a pocket or belt.

Ryobi USB Lithium LED Magnifying Light FVL55K
Last but not least is the USB Lithium LED magnifying light. It’s basically a magnifying glass with an integrated LED light. It offers 3x magnification to be able to read fine print and 200 lumens with 2 brightness settings. The included 2ah battery provides up to 16 hours of runtime for the light on its lowest brightness setting.

Ryobi USB Lithium 2ah Battery FVB02
When I received the press release info directly from Ryobi, I noticed they made mention of the USB Lithium 2ah battery. It’s listed as a new product and this left me scratching my head. This is because there has already been a FBV01 2ah battery since the introduction of the USB Lithium system’s debut back in January 2022. It appears that this “New” 2ah battery has a new model number and it costs $5 more.
What do you get for $5 extra? In all honesty, as far as actual features are concerned – I can’t tell. Both models have the same features. They both have 2ah of battery capacity, they offer a USB-C in/out charge ports which allow them to charge the battery. Or so you can use the battery to power something else like charging your cell phone for example. They also both feature an on-board LED status light to let you know the battery level status. Apparently the only differences I can find are cosmetic. The LED light that surrounds around the USB-C port is now fully lit whereas on the original had a small section that isn’t lit. Also the label has a battery icon. Whether these two differences warrant a 25% (rounded) price hike – that is up to you.
But in my opinion, sometimes brands like to make new SKU’s of existing products so they can call them “NEW” and create more buzz around their product lines.

Everything they have announced months ago is still “coming soon” and and your links only work to buy yet another useless battery for stuff that hadn’t been made yet.
I have a great idea: announce stuff you can sell, not what you aspire to sell, will sell at some point in the future, thinking of selling, etc.
What do I care what ryobi might roll out months from now?
They are all set to launch in August, weeks from now, not months.
I can see your point but if we look at the positive, giving users a heads up on upcoming tools can be beneficial. For example, let’s say someone wants to buy x tool but their favorite brand doesn’t currently yet offer it. They don’t want to stray to a competing brand but are willing to consider that option depending on how urgently they need it. And upon knowing their brand will be coming out with x tool, they might be willing to wait so they stay with their favorite brand. This logic makes even more sense if they’re within the constraints of a cordless tool system as buying into another brand would mean buying into and maintaining another batter system which can become a hassle for some. As it is easier and more cost effective to stay into one battery system.
On a side note, most tool brands announce new tools before they launch, not just Ryobi. This is a very common practice. One brand I can think of that has tools available for purchase when they are announced are Klein. Most of the time at least.
