New Ryobi 18V 8ah & 12ah Lithium EDGE Battery
Back in 2024 we learned of Ryobi coming out with a new battery known as the Lithium EDGE. At the time it was only available as a 4ah model. This new Lithium EDGE battery was touted as Ryobi’s most powerful battery at the time. They even showed it outperforming other Ryobi batteries in side by side tests. Now Ryobi expands their Lithium EDGE battery line to include an 8ah and 12ah models for double and triple the capacity of the original EDGE battery. They claim up to 8x and 10x the runtime for the 8ah and 12ah models respectively along with 2x the power. The runtime claims should be put up with asterisks as capacity is capacity and simple math. A larger capacity battery will run longer.
These batteries are designed for higher power draw tools like saws, grinders, etc to provide the best performance and runtime.
These new Lithium EDGE batteries feature tabless cells which they claim removes power delivery bottlenecks. They also feature laser welded cell straps and upgraded heatsinks along with a robust heat management system they call COOL-CORE PRO to help the battery run cooler to extend battery life and long term performance.
The batteries themselves have robust construction with durable overmolds, increased impact durability, and anti vibration tech so they last under harsh conditions.
Both batteries are available in May 2026 and the 8ah is priced at $229 and the 12ah is priced at $269.
