Ryobi introduces 2 new 40V string trimmer models and several new EXPAND-IT attachments. Availability starts in December 2023. We check them out below.

RYOBI™ 40V HP BRUSHLESS 16″ CARBON FIBER SHAFT STRING TRIMMER
This model features many bells and whistles. Such as a carbon fiber shaft for lighter weight, a brushless motor, and is part of the EXPAND-IT family.
This means that it can accept any EXPAND-IT attachment heads for additional functionality. This tool comes with the string trimmer head but you can add other heads like a cultivator, edger, blower, and hedge trimmer heads to name a few.
The base has 2 speeds and variable speed trigger. As a string trimmer Ryobi says it has more power than a 27cc gas string trimmer. It has a dual line 14-16″ cutting swath and uses 0.095″ line. It includes a REEL EASY+ 3 in 1 bump feed head. When paired with a 4ah battery, it can run for up to 45 minutes and when paired with an 8ah battery can run for up to 98 minutes.

RYOBI™ 40V 15″ STRING TRIMMER
This is the step down model at a more wallet friendly price. In fact this model as a kit is priced considerably less than the the carbon fiber model above as a baretool! Though not a carbon fiber shaft or featuring a brushless motor, this model still has some respectable stats. Such a a 13-15″ cutting swath with dual 0.080″ line. It too is an EXPAND-IT capable tool to add additional attachment heads to increase functionality.
The base features a single speed base with variable speed trigger. The string trimmer head uses a REEL EASY+ Speed Winder bump feed head.
