Milwaukee M18 Fuel 4-1/2″ / 5″ Dual Trigger Braking Grinder – Features
This new cordless M18 Fuel angle grinder features dual triggers to operate. You have the traditional paddle trigger underneath the main handle.
It also features a permanent side handle with integrated triggers. Both triggers must be pressed in order for this grinder to operate. This means that the operator must keep both hands on the tool to operate it which will help with stability.
The permanently integrated side handle cannot be removed. This is to ensure compliance so that users cannot remove it. The handle can pivot to allow for placement on the left or right side or top.
I like that Milwaukee added an additional pivot point on the side handle itself for even greater flexibility of handle position. I have not seen this feature before on an angle grinder side handle. So props to Milwaukee.
The wheel guard is tool-less to easily adjust but is not easily removed. I suspect they made it hard to remove on purpose as a deterrent so users are less inclined to remove it. Though I see this as a moot point. If a user wants to remove it and leave it off, I don’t think that making it more difficult will stop them as this process will be done once and probably stay off if they don’t like guards in the first place. So probably a feature to further ensure jobsite compliance.
It features ONE-KEY functionality to sync the tool wirelessly with their app and to identify its location and utilize integrated tool security.
It features 4 variable speed settings of 3,500-8,500 RPM. The mode dial allows you to toggle through the settings.
It also features AutoStop kickback control which is their marketing term to describe that this tool will stop the motor if the wheel binds. This is a safety feature to protect you from snapping your arms and wrists violently in case the wheel ever gets pinched.
Last but not least is the braking feature which uses an electronic brake to slow the wheel down quickly after the triggers are depressed.
