Ryobi 40V HP Brushless Kinetic Log Splitter – Features
There are log splitter options on the market from gas powered, electric powered, and hydraulic powered options. Some of the hydraulic models are powered by elbow grease. All of these types greatly improve the rate and ease at which you can split logs. However they all come with some downsides. Such as fumes, consumables like gas, need to be plugged in, and some need you to put in some manual labor to get them to work.
That’s what’s great about Ryobi’s 40V log splitter is that there are no consumables like gas, no fumes, no need to plug in, and it does all the work for you. Just pop in a charged 40V battery and it does the work for you.
This 40V model uses a brushless motor that delivers up to 12 tons of splitting force which Ryobi says is more power than an 80cc gas model. It can split lots up to 20″ in length and 10″ wide.
It also uses a kinetic design for far faster log splitting. So how fast can a log splitter split wood if a kinetic wood splitter could split wood? 2 seconds fast! That’s PDQ! That’s much faster than traditional options.

The top has the battery port and it’s covered to protect the battery from the elements.
It’s got on/off button switches, an operating lever, and safety release lever. You have to push the operating lever forward each time you want to split a log. At first, I didn’t like this design as I felt a push button would be more convenient. However the more I thought about it, I came to think that pushing the lever forward is better for safety. It would be all too easy to accidentally push a button which could result in some accidents when loading the wood and possibly get your hand mashed. And requiring to move the lever forward would result in far less chances of accidental operation. So good job Ryobi! They also placed reset switches on the sides.
I like the build quality of this machine with a metal tubing frame and thick square tubing for the log splitter section. It also uses large 11″ all terrain wheels for easy transport in the field.

So how much wood can a log splitter split, if a cordless 40V log splitter could split wood? Up to 150 splits with a 40V 4ah battery.
