Makita 18V 6″ Pruning Saw XCU14

Makita 18V Pruning Saw XCU14

When you think of a cordless pruning saw, the Milwaukee hatchet may come to mind. This may appear to be the first of the modern pruning chainsaws with Ryobi following suit recently. However Makita was the first brand to come out with a cordless pruning chainsaw with the UC120DWD which is on an old extinct 12V platform. That model was also claimed to be the first ever cordless chainsaw to boot. Now in modern times, Makita announces their own pruning style chainsaw with the 18V 6″ pruning saw.

This portable cordless chainsaw features a 6 inch bar and chain and one handed design similar to Milwaukee’s Hatchet chainsaws. Though these are designed for one handed use, they top motor hump allows for holding with your other hand. Since your hand is in close proximity to the blade, Milwaukee added a hand guard on the motor hump. Makita instead ditched the hand guard on the motor hump for a top blade guard. I think I prefer Milwaukee’s hand guard idea as it keeps your hand further away from the blade but both methods work.

I prefer Makita’s tool-less method to adjust chain tension. I don’t see any mention of an automatic oiler so this leads me to believe that this doesn’t have an oil tank to lubricate the chain. I’m not crazy about this as just about most if not all chainsaws use bar and chain oil. There’s a good reason they do so which makes me scratch my head as to why Makita didn’t. However they aren’t alone as Ryobi has done the same with their cordless pruning saws and they claim they’ve done the testing to prove it.

Runtime is rated for up to 140 cuts in 2″ cedar with a 2.0ah battery.

Makita 18V Outdoor Adventure High Speed Blower/Inflator ADSA01Z

Most if not all of Makita’s outdoor adventure products are existing products with a new “outdoor adventure” army green style colorway. The same is true of this “new” blower/inflator which is basically the same as the existing XSA01Z blower/inflator but with a new color and new SKU. Both have models have the same design, function, and shape and even the same stats. For example they both feature a brushless motor capable of 39 CFM of air volume at 447 MPH of air velocity.

This makes it a good blower for light duty dusting off nearby objects and table tops. It’s also good for inflating and deflating inflatables like air mattresses.

Makita 18V Compact LED Light DML817

This next 18V product is a compact LED light. It has a max brightness of 300 lumens. This is a strange light it’s lumens are split in half with 150 lumens pointing up and the other 150 pointing forwards to the side. You can operate either the top or the side by themselves or both at the same time.

This light is also shaped like a power source and also acts like one as well with a single USB-A port to charge your mobile devices on the go.

Makita 40V XGT 13/16″ Rotary Hammer GRH10

Last but not least is a new rotary hammer to their 40V XGT lineup with a compact and lightweight model. Yet capable with a nearly 1″ rated capacity. Makita says it has a powerful brushless motor that delivers up to 40% more hitting force than previous models.

It has a variable speed dial and trigger so you can match the speed to the application. It also has a torque limiting clutch to disengage the gears incase the bit binds and also has a constant speed control to automatically add power to maintain speed under load.

It also has AVT for low vibration, an LED light for low light, soft grip handle, and large 2 finger trigger as well as a retractable hook to secure the tool when not in use.
