Klein Tools Pro Thermal Imager TI270 – Features

Klein Tools Pro Thermal Imager TI270

It wasn’t that long ago that we learned about the Klein Pro thermal imager TI290 model. It’s a small handheld thermal imager that fits in the palm of your hand and easily fits into a pocket.

It has a candy bar form factor similar to a smartphone like the Flir C2 was as well.

The Klein TI290 model had a price tag of around $499.99 and this new TI270 model is a more “affordable” version of that one at $399.99. It still features a built in rechargeable battery for convenience. It has the ability to take and store up to 10,000 images.

And also has Wifi capability to share images wirelessly.

Where the TI270 model differs is a vastly downgraded thermal imaging resolution. Whereas the TI290 model had over 49,000 pixels, this TI270 model has just over 10,000 pixels which is roughly one fifth the resolution of it’s bigger brother. You’ll still be able to get the picture and work done but not as crisp as the upgrade model.

It uses a single thermal imager sensor on the back. This means you will only view a thermal image. I’ve always liked the implementation that Flir used with their dual camera sensors. It would use a regular camera sensor which would capture a snapshot of the scene the way our eyes see it. Then overlap the thermal image over it. The result was a more detailed thermal image where you could tell what objects were in the scene. Klein’s implementation doesn’t use something similar so you wont get the same kind of detail, even with a higher resolution thermal image sensor. But it still gets the job done.
