Hercules 20V Brushless Compact Trim Router – Features

Hercules 20V Brushless Compact Trim Router

This is Hercules first cordless 20V router. They aren’t new to routers as they have a couple of corded models. This is also Harbor Freights second cordless router. The first one being the Bauer 20V compact router.

In many ways, the Hercules 20V router is similar to its Bauer 20V sibling. Both are variable speed trim routers with fixed base. In fact the aluminum base is very similar on both models, nearly identical except for the base of the base is different. Hercules uses a fully circle base with half circle-half square clear acrylic base, while the Bauer uses a fully square design. The knobs, levers, and buttons are in the same locations on both and have the same overall design.

Of course each model has it’s own cosmetic differences that make each model unique. Though the Hercules is more premium as the Bauer has a plastic motor housing while the Hercules has an aluminum motor housing.

On the backside is where you’ll find the on/off switch and variable speed dial with the battery mount above. RPM is the same as the Bauer at 10,000-30,000 no load. Also just like the Bauer, it has a flat top design for easy bit changes and both have 2 LED lights near the collet to help in low light cutting. And both models have brushless motors with soft motor start.

The Hercules model is said to cut up to 100 feet per charge with a 5ah battery.

So far, the Hercules 20V trim router looks like an excellent option with all that makes the Bauer model great but with better materials. And the best feature of the Hercules is the fact that it is much less than the competition at only $69.99. That’s far less moolah than Dewalt’s, Milwaukee’s, Makita’s, and Ridgid’s cordless trim routers. The Hercules is even priced lower than Ryobi’s cordless router!

The one thing I would have liked to have seen is the addition of a plunge router base – optional of course to keep the baretool price as low as it is.
